Homemade Cerelac - One of the Best Sathu Maavu Recipes for Babies

By Dipandita Dutta

What if I told you that my baby's first actual solid bite was a powerful combination of taste and nutrition, and no, it was neither a spoonful of boiled potato, nor moong daal khichdi. It was a healthy baby powder, popular by the phrase 'homemade cerelac' in many households.

(also known as sathu maavu) made from 7 superfood flours. Sathu Maavu ingredients include - ragi, jowar, foxtail millet, moong dal, that babies can consume after 6 months of age. Also popular as 'Homemade Cerelac,' sathu maavu is a health mix powder mostly introduced to babies as one of the basic foods like rice and dal. Making sprouted homemade cerelac is a very tedious process and proper care has to be taken during every step of preparation. If you want you can save the time and effort and spend it with your little one by ordering the natural health mix.

When you introduce sathu maavu to your baby for the first time, start with a teaspoon. Follow a 3-day-wait rule and if no allergic symptoms are seen, gradually increase the quantity. This sathu maavu recipe is a wholesome meal that keeps your baby's tummy full for a long time. You can either prepare a sweet or savory version (depends on your baby's preferred choice). Make sure to use a dry, and clean spoon every time you are scooping out the powder from the box. Store your baby cereals or other food powders properly.

The homemade cerelac is not just for babies. Even older kids can consume it as sathu maavu health drink.
