Moong Dal Soup

Ingredients:

  • ¼ cup moong dal khichdi mix
  • 1 cup water
  • ¼ tsp ghee
  • A pinch of turmeric powder
  • A pinch of asafetida (hing)
  • A pinch of cumin seeds
  • A pinch of coriander powder

Steps:

  1. Prepare the Moong Dal Mixture:
    • In a bowl, combine ¼ cup moong dal khichdi mix with 1 cup of water.
    • Mix well using a spoon or fork to ensure there are no lumps. Set aside.
  2. Temper the Spices:
    • In a pan, heat ¼ tsp ghee over medium heat until melted and hot.
    • Add a pinch each of turmeric powder, asafetida, cumin seeds, and coriander powder.
    • Stir the spices in the ghee for a few seconds until they become fragrant.
  3. Cook the Moong Dal Soup:
    • Carefully pour the moong dal water mixture into the pan with the tempered spices.
    • Stir well to combine everything.
    • Allow the mixture to come to a gentle boil.
    • Reduce the heat to low and let it simmer for 3-4 minutes, stirring occasionally. If you prefer a thinner consistency, add more water as needed.
  4. Serve:
    • Once the soup is cooked to your desired consistency and the flavors have melded, remove from heat.
    • Serve the moong dal soup hot.
